Jake’s Story: Jake started his hospitality career in the Bed and Breakfast industry in Lake Tahoe at the age of 10. His parents found a great property on Lake Tahoe and decided to transform it into the best B&B in the area. The day of our opening his dad was sick as a dog while Jake and his mom were still hanging pictures on the wall as people were arriving. Nothing like trial by fire. This shaped his passion for hospitality and real estate.
At the age of 23, Jake’s parents once again bought a dilapidated property, this time in Palm Springs, CA and needed someone to manage it. After spending 9 months renovating they reopened a 1950s themed property that eventually was named a top 5 hotel in the US on TripAdvisor. Jake served as President of the Small Hotels of Palm Springs, was on the tourism board and built a successful business. After 5 years of sweating in Palm Springs, Jake wanted to get back to the mountains.
He found his new home in Denver, CO. After buying, renovating and selling two long term rentals in Denver, Jake found two great multifamily properties in Steamboat Springs that needed some work but had potential.
Jake is now married with a daughter, Charlee, and works as a Firefighter for North Metro Fire Dept. He spends his time skiing, biking, looking at real estate, and enjoying his family.
Jake currently has 5 units active on AirBNB and VRBO and manages an additional 3 for clients in the area. After spending so much time researching everything from trash bags to silverware, Jake decided to pair with Erik to create Master Vacation Rentals to make it easier to get up and running with a Short Term Rental.
Erik’s Story: Erik learned the importance of customer service in the fine dining world, and has subsequently spent time working in commercial real estate and the vacation rental space. While talking to vacation rental owners all across the country a common theme emerged – there were few resources to help homeowners decide how to furnish and get their vacation rental property setup, especially when it came to recommending specific products.
After helping Jake with renovations on several of his Steamboat Springs properties, we decided that there was a gap in the market for vacation rental owners that we could help fill. We realized after spending countless hours comparing products reviews, price shopping, and determining which products were actually durable we realized a new resource was needed.
Our goal is to become a resource for owners of vacation rental properties and those considering getting into this industry, by helping them save them time and hassle getting their property rental ready.
